Presenting tonight at Fox Valley Jug, and dealing with anxiety

Nice timing to see a post over on Presentation Zen about dealing with presentaton anxiety. Tonight I’m doing the refactoring session ad the Fox Valley JUG, just outside Green Bay. Also perfect timing was the onset of a cold and horrible sore throat this week, but I’m sure I’ll be fine by the things start up. The two and half hour drive will give me some nice time to catch up on podcasts, as I’m a few Java Posse’s behind and one Ruby on Rails also (though the Rails podcast is almost always painful to listen to, but I digress..).

Rob, you did a great job tonight in spite of that cold and sore throat. Thanks for making the trip and hope you made it home safely.

I’m not sure how people can switch so quickly between the “refactoring” and “new functionality” hats, but the live refactoring session really had me thinking about some portal components that I need to” find the seams on” and decouple when we have our next round of revisions. Thanks again!

Thanks Ken! The trip home was pretty rough, I had to stop a couple times and load up on caffiene, but I made it through.

I think the ability to do TDD and switch between the two modes just comes with experience and practice. Once you get used to it it just becomes second nature and you can’t imagine going back to regular development.
